Description

The Cesca B32 chair was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928; the cantilever structure, made from tubular chromium steel, supports the seat and backrest which are available in a rattan or upholstered version. The upholstered version is also available with an exposed, beechwood edge or an upholstered edge.
One of the reasons that Marcel Breuer uses tubular steel for the structure of the chair, is the intrinsic elasticity it gives to the metal without the need for springs or elastic bands. The seat and the backrest are padded with expanded foam and upholstered in calfskin leather, full-grain leather, aniline leather, faux-leather or fabric.
This reproduction of the Cesca B32 by Marcel Breuer is a design product which is manufactured in an Italian craft workshop.

Material Specifications
Calf Leather: cowhide originating from European and non-European slaughterhouses, chrome tanning, dyeing in accordance with CEE legislation, average measurements 4/ 5 m2, 0,91 mm thick. Calf leather, or “contract” leather, is a proper-grain leather. It is a competitively-priced leather which is soft to touch and lasts well over time. An excellent balance between quality and price.

Full-grain Leather: cowhide originating from European and non-European slaughterhouses, chrome tanning, dyeing in accordance with CEE legislation, average measurements 4/ 5 m2, 1,4 / 1,6 mm thick. Printed Grain leather (“grain” leather) is also a proper-grain leather but is thicker than calf leather. This gives it added durability over time and helps it to last longer. The surface of the leather is usually slightly more rough to the touch, in comparison to other types of leather.

Aniline Leather: cowhide originating from European and non-European slaughterhouses, chrome tanning, dyeing in accordance with CEE legislation, average measurements 4/ 5 m2, 1,1 / 1,2 mm thick. Aniline leather is the finest leather used for furniture. The grain on the surface is completely natural and has not undergone any corrections, so much so that you can make out the pores, veining, and grooves. This means that the surface is not as uniform as the other types of leather. Aniline leather is soft to touch.

Fabric: a composition consisting of 63% cotton and 37% linen, weighing 380 gr/m2, 140cm in height.

Designer

Marcel BreuerMarcel Breuer (Pécs, 1902 – New York, 1981)
Marcel Breuer has been one of the greatest architects of the Century, and that was already pretty clear during the 20s when, at 32, he was studying at Bauhaus carpentry. Hartmann, a master artisan, recalls that Breuer with courage and perseverance questioned the sacred rules of Bauhaus and found very personal solutions to them. During the years at Bauhaus he designed many furniture for a prototype house and became co-founder of a cooperative for architecture. From 1925 to 1928 he supervised the carpentry class. His first chairs in steel tube belong to that period of time as well as his first furniture pieces: he furnished the houses of Bauhaus masters and Erwin Piscator apartment in Berlin.
In 1937 Breuer moved to the United States where he lived until his death. In Cambridge (Massachusetts) he managed a studio together with Walter Gropius and for nine years he had been working as a professor of architecture at Harvard Univeristy. Breuer produced a series of great design projects: Unesco building in Paris, "De Bijenkorf" mall in Rotterdam, Usa embassy in Hague, Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and Sport Park in Flushing Meadows. After the 30s he stopped designing furniture and he started with tapestry. The great quality of Breuer architectures is given by the combination of great beauty and functionality.
