Description

Egg Chair armchair, reproduction of a model created by designer Arne Jacobsen, with seat and back in fibreglass with padding; the cover can be chosen among wool and leather, available in three different finishes and several colours. The armchair is swivel and comes with satin glossy aluminium spoke base. Egg armchair became famous, together with Swan Chair, as the first swivel upholstered armchair. The swing movement allows the back to bend guaranteeing the highest comfort, while a lever allows to block the seat at 90°. Moreover, thanks to the lever, you can adjust the swing mechanism; by turning it clockwise the internal spring will be more rigid resulting in a softer movement while if turned anticlockwise, the spring will be lighter favouring the swinging. Among the alternative products at the bottom of the page you can also view the matching Egg Ottoman.

Leather Cover

Calf LeatherCalf Leather: bovine leather coming from European and Extra-european slaughterhouses, chrome tan, dyeing according to CEE rules, average measure m² 4/5 and thickness 0,9/1 mm. Calf leather or contract leather is a corrected grain leather. It has a very competitive price, it's fairly soft to the touch and long lasting. Calf leather is a material with an excellent value for money.

Full Grain LeatherFull Grain Leather: bovine leather coming from European and Extra-european slaughterhouses, chrome tan, dyeing according to CEE rules, average measures m² 4/5 and thickness 1,4/1,6 mm. Grain leather is still corrected grain but with a higher thickness than Calf Leather. This guarantees a longer duration and resistance. This leather surface is generally a little bit coarser to the touch compared to other kind of leathers.
Aniline LeatherAniline Leather: bovine leather coming from European and Extra-european slaughterhouses, chrome tan, dyeing according to CEE rules, average measure m² 4/5 and thickness 1,1/1,2 mm. Aniline leather is the most valuable leather used in the furniture sector. The superficial grain is natural and without corrections, it's also possible to catch a glimpse of the leather pores, veins and lines; infact the surface is not always homogeneous as in full grain or calf leathers. Aniline Leather also results very soft to the touch.

Arne JacobsenArne Jacobsen Arne Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen in 1902 and started working in his home country, winning at the same time the first prize at the Akademisk Arkitektforeningen competition for designing the "House of the Future". Influenced by designers such as Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe he was one of the first person to introduce modernism to Danish design field between the 20s and 30s. In addition to the several works realized as an architect, Jacobsen became famous as a designer, thanks to his chairs and furniture accessories production that made him become one of the most famous designer of his century. With the project of his most famous work, Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, he was able not only to project the building itself but also to design the interiors in every detail: from furniture fabric (among which we find Egg and Swan chairs) to cutlery and ashtrays. During his whole career Jacobsen matched sculpture like shapes to organic ones, mixing them with Scandinavian design traditional characteristics, obtaining extraordinary results still lasting through time.
